According to the US Labor Department statistics, employment of ultrasound technicians is expected to increase in demand and grow faster than the average for all occupations through 2012 and will rapidly begin expanding after the year 2016 when the Health Care Bill comes into full effect.

While attending school, it is a good idea to look into internship programs over the summer. Your professor should be able to point you in the right direction. An internship will give you some experience and help you adjust to the work environment. It also looks really good on a resume that you took the initiative and got into a program before you even started your career. Most importantly, you will be able to network with people and build up business contacts and relationships.
