The most popular choice is the associate's degree due to its duration. Students will take subjects such as physiology, anatomy, basic physics, instrumentation, medical ethics, patient care and so much more. There are over 150 programs accredited by the Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) all over the country. Besides colleges and universities, hospital ultrasound technician education training programs are accredited too.

If you have no time to spare, or you are in your 20s, and just want the education to help boost your career, you could take up a one year program from vocational schools for a vocational certificate in diagnostic sonography. This is great to help boost the career of anyone with years of experience under their belt, but without formal education degrees from colleges or universities.

As of today, there are no states with law that states that ultrasound technicians or medical diagnostic sonographers to be certified. However, there are certain programs to get oneself credentialed by reputable certifying bodies. This will also help to bright up ones career in the field as most employers will definitely prefer those who are credentialed by reputable certifying bodies. You can get credentialed by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS), The American Registry of Radiologic Technologist and the Cardiovascular Credentialing International.
